The 14th of March marks the suspension of the vaccination pass and the wearing of masks indoors in France. What does this mean for us and our students?
Where will the vaccination pass be lifted on 14 March 2022?
From Monday 14 March 2022, the vaccination pass will no longer be compulsory on French territory. It will therefore no longer be necessary to present the QR-Code of your vaccination pass at the entrance of these establishments open to the public:
Restaurants, bars and cafés
Long-distance transport (TGV, Intercités, night trains, domestic flights and inter-regional coaches)
Campsites, hotels and holiday centres
Sports facilities (sports hall, swimming pool, gymnasium, ice rink, riding stables etc)
Ski lifts
Museums and monuments
Amusement parks
Concerts and festivals
Cinemas
Theatres and other performance venues
Trade shows, fairs and seminars
Casinos and other gaming venues
Boat cruises
Nightclubs
Shopping centres and department stores
Will the vaccination pass be compulsory for transport on 14 March?
From 14 March, a vaccination pass will no longer be required to travel by train, plane or boat, whether long or short distance. All interregional public transport (TGV, Intercités, night trains, domestic flights) will no longer be subject to this rule. Our students will be able to travel freely in France without having to have their vaccination certificate converted on arrival.
Will the vaccination pass be required at the hospital on 14 March?
On 14 March, the vaccination pass will no longer be required in medical and social establishments. However, "the health pass will remain the rule in "health establishments, retirement homes and establishments for people with disabilities who are particularly vulnerable" after 14 March, as will the compulsory vaccination for carers, announced Prime Minister Jean Castex on 3 March.
What is the end date for wearing masks indoors?
The end of mask wearing was announced for Monday 14 March 2022 by Prime Minister Jean Castex on the 1pm news programme on TF1, on the same date as the end of the vaccination pass. It will therefore no longer be necessary to wear a mask:
- in companies,
- in shops,
- schools, colleges, high schools, universities,
- discotheques,
- in public administrations.
However, it will still be compulsory to wear a mask on 14 March in all public transport "in view of the promiscuity" as well as in all medico-social establishments (hospitals, EHPAD, independent residences and retirement homes).
In a press release, the government also recommends wearing a mask "for positive persons and contact cases at risk, symptomatic persons and health professionals".
Where does the health pass remain mandatory?
Prime Minister Jean Castex has announced that the health pass will remain compulsory, as of Monday 14 March, only in all "health establishments, retirement homes and establishments for people with disabilities who are particularly vulnerable". This means that it will still be necessary to have a complete vaccination schedule, a certificate of recovery from Covid-19, or to have carried out a PCR, antigenic or self-test (under the supervision of a health professional) less than 24 hours old, in order to access hospitals, retirement homes and medico-social establishments. Minors aged between 12 and 15 will be exempt from the health pass in all other places where it applies, as adults will be exempt from the vaccination pass, from 14 March 2022.
