Just 1 hour's drive from Montpellier, set off to discover St Guilhem-le-Désert, a typical Languedoc village and stop-off point on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela (listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO). The village is listed as one of the "most beautiful villages in France", with just 300 inhabitants but over 1 million tourists every year. You'll discover its prestigious religious past, with its thousand-year-old Romanesque church housing the relics of St Guilhem, Charlemagne's first cousin, and a piece of the true cross of Jesus Christ.

"Sud de France-l'Occitanie fête la Qualité" is the biggest market in Occitanie for local produce bearing the Occitanie quality mark. It will take place from 16 to 18 June 2023 on Place de Thessalie in Montpellier !

Saturday 17 June
Morning suggestion: Go to the market ! Marché des Arceaux, organic and local products
9.00m - 6.00pm : Excursion to Nîmes and Pont du Gard
Visit the Jardins de la Fontaine, an ancient Roman necropolis built around the Nemausus spring, and the Temple of Diana. Pass in front of the former great Roman temple: the Maison Carré and visit the outside of the Arena (inside visit not included), a former Roman amphitheatre, famous for its gladiatorial and bullfighting shows. Visit to the Romanesque cathedral of St Castor. Free time in the town. At lunchtime, you can try Nîmes brandade, a local speciality made from cod and olive oil. The Pont du Gard, the highest Roman aqueduct bridge (48 metres above the river), is 2000 years old and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 45-minute walk along the aqueduct, shoes closed, bottle of water. Possibility of swimming in the river beneath the aqueduct. Bring a swimming costume.

8:30am - 6:00pm : Excursion to Marseille
The 1st port and capital of the French Mediterranean, Marseille is a magnificent city between the Camargue, the Alps and the Côte d'Azur. We'll climb up to visit the Basilica of Notre Dame de la Garde, a 19th-century Neo-Byzantine church and pilgrimage site for the people of Marseille, nicknamed the Good Mother. It offers exceptional views over the city and the Château d'If, home of the famous Count of Monte Cristo. We'll then take a walk along the Old Port to discover the Roman Dock Museum and the narrow streets of the Panier district. We'll finish our tour of the district with a visit to the Old Charity. We'll then visit Notre Dame de la Major cathedral, which boasts one of the highest domes in the world. Combining Roman and Oriental styles, it is a real treasure trove, with Byzantine arcades, white marble and magnificent mosaics inside. Finally, we'll end our day at Fort St Jean and its towers, which guard the entrance to the city's port. The view over the port is magnificent.
