What to do in Montpellier ?
Our French school, Accent Français, is located right next to Place de la Comédie, the largest pedestrian square in Europe, with its 19th century opera house and the famous Fountain of the 3 Graces, a key meeting point for people living in Montpellier.
Students love to go to the ice cream shop after classes in the middle of summer to choose from the 50 flavors of ice cream available, just up the street.
The Place de la Comédie is surrounded by restaurants and cafés with sunny terraces, nice little stores, bakeries and pastry shops where you can buy sandwiches and French specialties such as macaroons, croissants, pains au chocolat, etc.
The Tourist Office is located just a minute's walk away, between the Place de la Comédie and the Esplanade, and their staff will be happy to inform you about the treasures our city has to offer.
The daily market is located right in front of the Tourist Office, with fresh fruits and vegetables, clothes, bags, etc. If you go straight ahead, you will arrive at the Polygone: a large shopping center with more than 100 stores!
On the other side of the Esplanade, an alley surrounded by large plane trees with its fountains, greens and small snacks, is where the "Estivales" take place every Friday evening in summer (wine tasting and local products as well as concerts) and the Christmas market in winter.
The Corum is very active and attractive for its concerts, festivals and other events, and offers a rooftop terrace from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the city. The Rockstore is also well known for its live concerts and is just a few minutes away from the school.
Montpellier has 4 streetcar lines and 36 bus lines as well as 51 bike rental stations throughout the city. Take streetcar line 1 to the "Beaux Arts" district, where many painters, musicians and students live. There is always a small market in the morning and music in the evening.
You can also take the tramway line 3 and get off at "Etant de l'Or" and then take a bus to go to the beach in one of the seaside resorts like Palavas or Carnon !
You will be able to enjoy these tourist beaches and their marinas. If you prefer wilder places, then take the streetcar line 4 to "Garcia Llorca" and the bus n°32 or rent a bike to go to Villeneuve les Maguelone, one of the best preserved beaches of the coast to admire the pink flamingos and many other protected bird species.
Montpellier 300 days of sunshine a year, Montpellier, the city where the sun never sets !
